are “different by design” and have made their mark in the yacht building industry. Elmer Klapmeier and his son Jim started what is now called Bluewater Yachts in the 1950’s. The company is based in Mora, Minnesota and builds mostly custom motoryachts from 52 to 70 feet long. These yachts offer an owner without crew a successful ride. The design of Bluewater yachts deviated drastically from general yacht manufacture in the placement of the engine at the outward edges of the yacht, greatly aiding noise reduction. Bluewater has a patent for their GuardianLift® design, a planing system including a modified V-planing hull. Bluewater has a plethora of industry firsts, including the first one-piece fiberglass hull and the elimination of stringers with a new design using fiberglass parts.
