was founded in 1977 by Alex Chueh. Retired as a colonel from the military, and being a successful entrepreneur, Alex Chueh had a reputation for high integrity and quality. Chueh loaned a friend seed money to start a boat-manufacturing business, but when the friend couldn’t repay, Alex saw an opportunity for him and his family. The friend asked Alex to accept the boat yard as payment for the loan. Upon inspection of the operation, Alex saw that his own passion for high quality building and his superior business experience could create a wonderful future in building fine motor yachts. Alex Chueh became determined to be the finest yacht builder in the world and began gathering knowledge that would lead him to his goal. Building yachts from fiberglass exploded in the mid 1970s and many designers searched for yards in Taiwan to build custom boats. Alex wanted to find a well-respected designer to work with as a partner; this led to his meeting with Ed Monk, Jr. through a mutual acquaintance. Ed’s knowledge and skills in boat design was the perfect fit for Alex’s vision. With a handshake and mutual respect, they started a 30-year relationship in which the Ocean Alexander yard only built boats designed by Ed Monk, Jr.
