Tartan Yachts
works, by using current technologies, to create handmade sailing yachts for selective sailors. The company, led by Charlie Britton and consulting with Olin Stephens, produced its first yacht in 1960: a yacht that used new fiberglass technology hulls. Based in Fairport Harbor, Ohio, Tartan builds yachts that are 35 feet to 45 feet in length. Four points are stressed in Tartan philosophy: performance, construction, aesthetics/contemporary lines, and innovative/practical accommodations. Hulls built by Tartan are of epoxy composite laminate, a strong and lightweight substance, and post-cured in a custom-built oven.
